Radio England broadcasts come from the same vessel as Britain Radio--the MV. Laissez Faire--but both have entirely separate studios. The music is very much up to date and the d.j.s have a swinging style which makes for easy listening. Full details of the ship are included in the section on Britain Radio. The station has recently started to promote activities on land for listeners, beginning with live stage shows featuring top record artists and men from the ship. Other plans are also in hand for special offers and gifts.

RON O'QUINN (Senior d.j.)
In commercial radio since he was sixteen, twenty-three-year-old Ron brings plenty of experience to his job as top disc man on Radio England. Born in Moultrie, Georgia, he was still at the local Senior High School when he began spinning discs on Moultrie's station WMGA. This had always been his ambition and when he started earning his living he could already claim first-hand knowledge of radio production. Among the stations where he gained further experience--and found new fans--were WAAT-ADEL in Georgia, WMYR in Fort Myers, Florida, WROD in Daytona Beach, Florida, and WFUN in Miami. During his military service with the U.S. Army Ron become a crack shot and was offered a place in the U.S. Forces Pistol Team. Nearly 6 ft. tall with brown hair and green eyes, he has brought a high-powered style to Radio England which is gaining him fans at a fast rate. Ron lists Tom Jones and Martin Denny as his favourite artists and says that off-duty he likes hunting, fishing, swimming, water ski-ing and flying (he has a private flying licence). He can speak French, enjoys reading Ian Fleming and has a tremendous appetite for steaks.
BILL BERRY
Bill lists his favourite pastime as spending money and one of his chief pleasures speaking Russian--which just shows what a versatile and lively character he is! Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on January 3, 1943, he had an extensive education at Pennsylvania State University, University of Alaska, University of North Carolina and Lycoming College, Pennsylvania. He began deejaying while still at college and gained experience with the following stations before coming to Radio England: WHGB and WKBO in Harrisburg, KENI in Anchorage, Alaska, WSSB in Durham, North Carolina, WWPA in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and WKVA in Lewistown, not far from his home. Bill says he likes living well, dancing, and driving fast cars. He can also play the clarinet and saxophone and prefers jazz to all other types of music. He has brown hair, hazel eyes and is 5 ft. 11 in. tall. Bill's favourite artists are Gene Pitney, the Animals, and the Sinatras, Frank and daughter Nancy.
CHUCK BLAIR
Chuck who is of Swedish-American Indian-English ancestry, was a semi-professional footballer, actor and musician before becoming a d.j. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 16 twenty-six years ago, Chuck was educated at the University of Maryland and also studied at the Emerson College of Theatre and Radio Broadcasting and the Northeast School of Radio and TV Broadcasting. It was during his four years in the U.S.A.F. Air Sea Rescue Squad (he was a Staff Sergeant) that Chuck got his first radio experience deejaying on A.F.N., the Armed Forces Radio. His career then took him to such stations as WKVT in Vermont, WHAV and WLYN both in Massachusetts, WMEX in Boston and WKBR in New Hampshire. Chuck can play the piano, vibes, drums and bass, and whenever he wants to relax will tinkle the ivories for a while. He speaks an amazing number of languages--including Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, German, Italian and French--likes sports cars and swimming and lists his favourite author as Shakespeare. Nearly 6 ft. tall, Chuck has light brown hair, hazel eyes and a smile that stretches almost from ear to ear. He communicates his love of the music of the Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, The Four Seasons and the Beatles to his audience. And his audience have responded to him in a big way.
BOOM BOOM BRANNIGAN
Boom Boom is a man with a double life--apart from deejaying on Radio England under this name, he also broadcasts over the Britain Radio wavelength under his real name Bob Wayne. That's not the only remarkable thing about this nineteen-year-old from Bryn Mawr in Pennsylvania--he made his radio debut at thirteen! Born on July l7, 1947, Boom Boom--or Bob--was educated at the Central Dolphin Senior High and showed an interest in radio almost from the age he was old enough to appreciate it. He was also interested in musical instruments and can ploy the four-string guitar, mandolin and banjo. He worked on two U.S. stations before coming to Radio England, WFEC in Harrisburg and W100 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Six-foot tall, Bob has blond hair and hazel eyes. In his off-duty hours he likes model railways, sports car racing and ski-ing. He speaks French, admires R & B artists like Edwin Starr, Stevie Wonder and The Miracles, reads the novels of Frank G. Slaughter and maintains his favourite pastime is--chasing girls! Whether or not he catches them, Boom Boom has a big female following over the air waves of 227.
LARRY DEAN
With previous broadcasting experience in Georgia, Florida and New York, plus a period on the stage and work on TV commercials, Larry is well equipped to present some of the most polished shows on Radio England. Six-foot tall with dark brown hair and hazel eyes, he is twenty-two and was born on September 14. He began broadcasting when he was fifteen and still at school in his home town of Moultrie, Georgia. From there he graduated to a series of stations, ending up at WPTR in Albany, New York. Possessing a wide knowledge of pop music--and being particularly fond of The Rolling Stones, Beatles and Animals--he has built up a considerable following over the airways. Off duty, Larry is very fond of underwater photography, swimming and driving fast cars--in America he owned a Pontiac G.T.O. Reading also helps to fill in his time when off the air, and his favourite author is John Steinbeck.
JERRY SMITHWICK
Apart from being a d.j., Jerry is a very accomplished Drag racer. Back in his home country, America, he competed frequently in the exciting races, and owned a Chevrolet Malibu. Another man hailing from Moultrie, Georgia, Jerry is twenty-two years old and has blond hair and green eyes. He began his radio work with station WMTM in Moultrie in 1963 and shortly afterwards moved to WDUN in Gainsville, Georgia. Before crossing the Atlantic, he served for two and a half years in the U.S. Army and became a private first class. When off duty he likes reading or playing chemin de fer. His favourite artists are the Beatles and Sandie Shaw and when it comes to cooking, Italian food is top of his list.
JACK CURTISS
Jack is looked upon as the intellectual of the station: he had plans for a career in politics in America where he was born and the goatee beard he sports gives him the air of a university professor. On the air, however, he really comes to life and has one of the fastest rising popularity ratings on the station. Born in 1943 in San Francisco, Jack was educated at San Francisco State College and went into journalism with United Press International after leaving. This did not last long and he then tried commercial radio in 1963 on station KMPX in San Francisco. He worked on other stations in California and Virginia before coming to the shores of Britain. The tallest man on the ship--he's 6 ft. 6 in.--Jack speaks French and likes reading when off-duty. On shore he goes to the theatre whenever possible and experiments with food. Where music is concerned he likes practically anything--as long as it's good.
