This station first came on the air in May 1964 under the name "Radio Sutch". It was owned and run by the long-haired pop singer Screaming Lord Sutch who himself took turns at the mike with his team of deejays. In September of that year it was taken over by the present administration and re-named Radio City. It has a 200-ft. aerial and has become nicknamed by its staff "The Tower Of Power". Fourteen people--including the d.j.'s, engineers and two cooks--run the fort which is controlled by Mrs. Dorothy Calvert, wife of the late Reg Calvert. The London office of Radio City which handles all enquiries is at 7, Denmark Street, London, W.C.2. Just recently the station has produced T-shirts with its emblem on the front as the first of a series of offers.

TOM EDWARDS (Senior d.j.)
Tom is Radio City's "Mod" man--no matter what the conditions this live wire d.j. is always dressed in the latest fashion. Barn twenty-two years ago in Norwich, Tom began his working life as a journalist with leanings towards show biz. He later had the opportunity to realise his ambition and gave up being a reporter to become an announcer on Border TV's "Beat on the Border". From here he graduated to Radio City in September 1965. Tom likes clothes (of course!), food and Scotch and dry ginger. His many female fans should take note that he hates short skirts and white stockings combined. Tom lives in Whitstable, sharing accommodation with another Radio City staff member.
ALAN CLARK
If you’re a sales rep. and can't stand it, do as Alan Clark did--give it up and take to the air waves. Born in Croydon, Surrey, Alan was educated at the John Ruskin School until he was seventeen. Thereafter he spent a short but not too happy period as a rep. before trying his hand as a d.j. He joined 299 in November 1965 and as listeners know has established himself in no uncertain terms. Alan has brown hair and is nineteen years old. When relaxing off the air (and on shore) he likes going to the cinema or playing golf. His own particular favourite music is Modern Jazz.
PHIL JAY
Dark-haired, good-looking Phil Jay got his experience at the record turntable while doing his national service in the trouble spot of Cyprus. There he worked on Forces Broadcasts and had to go through the nerve-tingling business of emergencies and alerts several times. He also did a number of package tours as compere with stars such as Tommy Steele and Billy Fury. He came to the comparative quiet of Radio City in April 1965 and is now the longest serving d.j. Aged twenty-six he lives in Hounslow, Middlesex. When away from the station he likes driving, boating (as if he didn't see enough water already!) and going to the cinema.
IAN McRAE
A burly. blond-haired man, Ian is just one of several Australians who have become pop radio d.j.'s in Britain. After his schooling "Down Under", he tried hard to become a d.j. and was eventually successful with a small country station. He gained further experience at similar places before deciding to take time off for a working holiday in Britain. On his arrival the word around the scene was "pop" radio and Ian quickly signed up with Radio City. One of the most distinctive d.j.'s on the air waves, Ian is twenty-two years old. He likes reading, listening to music (any kind) and drinking beer.
ERIC MARTIN
Eric, off the air waves of 299, is a tape recording enthusiast and is not above introducing the occasional gimmick into his programmes. He joined the station directly after taking his "A'' level exams (could be he's the "Prof'' of the d.j.'s!) in August of this year and is already gathering a following. Eric is nineteen years old and lives in Forest Hill, London. Apart from his taping activities, Eric likes listening to most kinds of music and playing tennis.
PAUL KRAMER
Paul came to pap radio from films and often communicates his love of the cinema to his audience. Before joining Radio City in July of this year, he was working for Mercury Films as a recording engineer and consequently possesses a wide knowledge of the techniques of broadcasting. When he is not working Paul likes making his own movie films and says he will bore his friends with them If given half a chance. He is nineteen years old and lives in Neasden. Says what he misses most by being a d.j. is the chance to drive his Ford Cortina.
ED MORENO
The most experienced of 299's team of d.j.'s, Ed comes from America. Born in Virginia thirty-five years ago he has been in broadcasting since he left college and has worked for stations in the U.S.A., Hong Kong, Japan and for A.F.N. in Germany. Ed's speciality is personal interviews with top recording artists from all over the world and there are very few major stars he has not talked to. He joined Radio City in August last year and says he prefers "soft music'' to all others. Even when not on the air, Ed doesn't particularly want to put his feet on dry land: he much prefers to go flying!
