| Radio 270 is a pre-war Dutch lugger, Oceaan VII, which is registered in the port of Puerto Cortes and flies the Honduras flag. Easily visible from the busy seaside centre of Scarborough (Home of Britain's Number One d.j., Jimmy Savile), the ship weighs 160 tons, is 139 ft. long and has a 154-ft. mast for broadcasting. There are two studios below deck and the d.j.'s have their own recreational room equipped with TV. One of the newest stations to hit the air waves, Radio 270 has already established a sizeable listening audience in the North and plans further expansion to benefit its listeners. Several of its d.j.'s have also become widely known and attracted their own strong following of fans. Address of Radio 270 is Westminster Bank Chambers, St. Nicholas Street, Scarborough, Yorkshire. Ready soon will be the first issue of the station's new publication for listeners, "270 Magazine". | ||

PETER BOWMAN With television, ballroom and radio experience behind him, Peter is as professional as any d.j. on the air. Born twenty-two years ago in Carlisle, he has worked on Border TV and endured the vremendous strain of deejaying at ballroom dances. His last stop before 270 was Radio Scotland off Troon. His twice-daily shows are particularly popular with listeners and always give plenty of air space to Peter's favourite artists, the Beatles, Hollies and Peggy Lee. He enjoys driving fast cars when not working and lists his dislikes as cold custard and "hob-nail socks''. He is 5 ft. 6 in. tall and has black hair and brown eyes. |

Before switching to 270, he spent several months with Radio City learning the business of being a sea-bound d.j. ANDY KIRK Andy is the youngest of 270's d.j.'s and has been making news most of his life. He was born in Yorkshire nineteen years ago and was jumping around to pop music almost before he could walk. At sixteen he had formed his own beat group and earned quite a following in the country. After that he broadcast regularly on private radio in Leeds and from there naturally graduated into commercial radio and 270. Being already known in the area has helped establish his evening show as one of the most popular from the station. He likes girls--Brigitte Bardot in particular--but cannot stand snakes. Andy is 5 ft. 10 in. tall, has brown hair and brown eyes. His favourite artists are the Beatles and Sandie Shaw. |

HAL YORKE After leaving school Hal chose a career in the theatre for himself, but found it unrewarding and turned to an earlier love: radio. He spent a short while freelancing for the BBC and then when the plans for launching 270 neared completion joined the organisation as studio manager. Being based at Scarborough suits Hal down to the ground because he is a Yorkshireman by birth. Twenty-five years old, he is 6 if. 1 in. tall and has blond hair and blue eyes. When he can relax Hal likes photography and studying astronomy. Likes most modern music, but singles out the Beatles, The Kinks and Frank Sinatra as his particular favourites. |

LEON TIPPLER Leon is another of Radio 270's d.j.'s who began his career in commercial radio with Radio City. He was born in Kidderminster twenty-three years ago and has been interested in modern music far as long as he can remember. An admirer of Francoise Hardy, Leon is 5 ft. 10 in tall and has hazel eyes and brown hair. One of his favourite pastimes on shore is riding on trams--but he admits they are few and far between nowadays. He dislikes television and believes radio has more to offer twentieth-century teenagers. |
